In 2008 Eric wrote an article detailing his service with the Directorate and then having to take early retirement due to ill-health on his 50th birthday in February 1991. This can be viewed here.

"My grandad was an honourable and compassionate man. I know that everyone that knew him would agree. He took great pride in his career at DTELS and held great love and respect for his former colleagues. I grew up listening to his memories of work and will always admire how proud he was of his hard work at both DTELS and in the army. Thank you to all that have been a part of his life and may he rest in peace. He deserves some time to rest now."
